I think businesses must be community driven only then will it be a meaningful endeavour. Leaders with an abundance mindset will create significant opportunities for the community to evolve.
Today people don’t randomly buy a product. They look for everything a product stands for and then decide to buy it or not. By buying a product they are not just purchasing it but living an experience and helping the product serve the purpose it stands for in the longer run.
From a young age, I wanted to start something of my own but with a focus on lending a hand to those in need. Business to me is that bridge which fills the gaps between the rich and poor. I believe success comes from abundance and not scarcity. This means to exercise excellence in the most authentic way.
Earlier selfishness was rampant and many people had lost the ability to feel any type of emotion for their fellow human beings. But now when times are uncertain the most expensive and required emotion is that of humility. Therefore to fill the void in them people tend to support causes that they are connected to.
As leaders, I feel we should make our businesses a channel to manifest humility and sustain life in the most purest way which is only possible through an abundance mindset.
After cementing the foundation of my business in Jaipur, I decided to move to Gujarat in search of good weavers which helped me to establish weaving among the tribals. It was one of the most challenging stages in my life.
The tribals were very innocent people which made them protective of themselves. It wasn’t easy to connect but with utmost care and patience they became a part of my kith and kin.
During this time I learned some of the important lessons in my life of which significant was the understanding that rugs for me wasn’t just about making profits and creating something of my own rather empowering not just the weavers but their generations to be born as well.
By the time I trained 10000 tribals, my purpose in business became clearer. As leaders we need to become the ladder to those who are inaccessible to climb. This way you are sowing the seeds of humility as well as allowing your customer to experience something extraordinary.
When my artisans create authentic pieces of art for the customers to walk on, they are weaving the knots out of the myriad of emotions that they feel, especially the blessings. When you abundantly give your time and include the right people by giving them the required resources then you are indirectly building community roots which will create a sustainable ecosystem.
Therefore remember to not make business a source for acquiring selfish gains. As leaders we should promote abundance over scarcity. Nevertheless with conscious purpose comes meaning.
Abundance is an ocean so don’t go looking for it in a well. Instead of investing in products, invest in people. This will transform your business and push it into a meaningful endeavour.
