Business leadership has never been easy but 2020 took it a step further. To say we have made it through last year seems itself a great thing. All this while we were focusing on external leadership and inspiration when we were supposed to focus more on internal leadership.
Coming back to the workplace and rebuilding up the rapport is going to be one of the most challenging parts. However, I think communication and motivation is the key to bring back the spirit to the workplace.
A year away from my Jaipur Rugs family made me realize how much they have become a part of me.
This year my primary focus is on internal leadership because if I can’t stand beside my family and guide them then nothing else matters more.
Below are a few of the points I would like to share with you on building internal leadership
Radical Flexibility
The pandemic is far over but we are still uncertain of the future. Giving employees a space to be themselves without micromanaging them is important. Embrace flexibility by allowing them to choose between their work, their deadlines, or their time to work.
Focus on the Workflow
2020 made us realise that digitizing work is the best way to move forward. The sudden disruption created enough confusion. So this year make the workflow better by documenting everything digitally.
Also, let employees make their own decisions and not wait for other team members unless it is needed. Let each process be self-managed and boost efficiency.
Feed on Culture
As a leader focus on internal leadership, we need to feed on culture now more than ever. People are having double thoughts on whether to stick with the organization or to leave for a better opportunity.
I believe more than financial returns, bonds and relationships matter most. With a strong culture of communication, we can build better relationships and bonds that last beyond the professional network.
Internal Mobility
Allowing employees to shift from one role to another according to their passion is the smartest thing to do. This way we align the organization’s purpose to that of the individual’s purpose.
Also through reskilling, we can enhance the talents of the existing employees. Learning and development is the key to unlock the potential of the internal talents. This way we create a pathway for the employees to grow.
Take a Stand
Beyond the productivity, payroll and innovative ideas, I believe it’s love that binds all of us together. As I said earlier, my employees are like my family so to take a stand for them whenever they are in need is one of the many things that concern me. I don’t like to box myself in a cabin and leave my people in a dilemma. Anyone can approach me with their concerns anytime.
We are a family and if I can’t tend to my family’s needs then how will I help my consumers. Enhancing internal leadership helps in strengthening the roots of the foundation.
I believe change comes from within and once we help ourselves, the rest will happen gradually.
